Hello everyone.

I have finally decided that I am getting a ray. It will be my first ray, almost certainly a motoro and I will wait a few months before I get one.

I have a few questions:

I found these two books at my favorite online shop, should I get both or is the Richard M.D. Ross book the only I'll ever need?
-Freshwater Stingrays - Richard M.D. Ross
-AquaGuide to Freshwater Stingrays - Hans Gonella ; Herbert R. Axelrod

Tank questions:

I have several tanks where I could put it, at this time my choices are:
Tank 1: 1000 l/260 g. inhabitants one big 35 cm polypterus endliceri, three 30 cm crucian carps (:) )
Tank 2: 720 l/190 g. inhabitants (amongst others) one 25 cm Panaque, several smaller polypterus spp. spiny eels and others. Panaque could kill ray?
Tank 3: 170 l/45 g. corner tank, quite good footprint. inhabitants: none.

I was thinking Tank 3, even though it has a smaller buffer volumewise, and things can go wrong much faster in a small tank, I'd imagine it would be easier to observe feeding/behaviour aso in the beginning and move the fish when it has started eating and gained a little weight.

Filtration for Tank 3 is one Pentair Lifegard Fluidized Bed Filter FB300, should be sufficent biological filter, no?

I will probably have more questions later in the process...

Thanks
-SF

i'm not familiar with the fb filters, but ive heard nice things.

i had a 44 gal corner with a 6-7" motoro in it for awhile. i moved to a new home and it died, but a motoro can live in a small tank for a lil bit, plus you have the space to put like a family of rays!! just make sure the ph is right, 6.5- 7.0!!! mine ph is currently yellow in the tube! thats pretty much south american water (6.0) and all levels should read 0. except for nitrates, my are high as hell, no problems though. so test your water and make sure you have a staedy ph of 6.5, and no ammonia, nitirites! you'll be fine, also make sure the pet store feeds it before you take it home? slowly acclimate, for rays i took 2-3 hours before introducing in my tank

Ok thanks, I am quite overfiltered on all tanks and the 45 gallon has a filter good for 300 gallons (about 7 times 45) so I guess I am ready then...

Thanks again!

Guys, if read my first post, the 45 g is just to get it to settle in and eat and stuff.... I have the 190 g and a 260 for later...
