anyone kept dollar sunfish? just curious at how readily the mate and how much aggressiveness they display.

They are extremely territorial. They're small but mean, like Gary coleman.

Yeah, they can be nasty little buggers. I had a juvenile who decided overnight to slaughter all the other fish in his tank, even though they were all nearly his size. They can be kept with most other sunfish and other tough fish like catfish and big shiners or chubs; if you want to keep them with more peaceful fish, make sure it's a big tank with lots of cover.

 Thats the first time Ive heard any fish equated with Gary Coleman LOL. Ive heard of people keeping them with similary sized and temperate sunfish (Central Longear, Redspot sunfish).

Tennessee has no regulations applying specifically to taking fish for keeping in an aquarium. However, the regulations on collecting bait have been changed. Most small non-game fish are now "Class III" baitfish and cannot be taken away from the water in which they are caught. See the 2010 Tennessee fising guide for more info.

TWRA is getting more serious about protecting nongame species and reducing issues with bait-bucket introductions, which is very good news. However, they seem to be making no exceptions for native fish-keeping enthusiasts, which is bad news for us. Still, catch-and-release is almost as much fun as catch-and-keep. It'll have to do for now.

Wow thanks.....very scary I hope Missouri dosent follow suit, Arkansas has had a Snakehead breakout and we are having issues with Asian Carp and Zebra Mussels so I hope the MDC dosent get radical and punish us native fish keepers along with the culprits!

I currently have five dollar sunfish. They are approx 9 months old now and are different sizes. Even at young ages, they develop a very specific pecking order. There is clearly one dominate male (2.5'') that is the bosshog. The others are a bit smaller with the females being much smaller. They show beautiful colors even at such a young age. They are certainly handsome, small, and mean - like me, JK.
