Has anyone hee ever bred theirs?

I have mine outside 1 m 2 f over yr old now . We had a cold winter with nights in 40s (month or so) another month of 50s at night thus they had cooling period .

Now its 80s during day high 60s night yet I do not see any spawning. All 3 are eating which makes me think no spawning going on.

I had thought after cooling period they would have spawned fairly fast. Its been warm now during day for few weeks .

Male from I can see vibrant and females look great .

Possible still to young?

Thanks

Yeah, they can be nasty little buggers. I had a juvenile who decided overnight to slaughter all the other fish in his tank, even though they were all nearly his size. They can be kept with most other sunfish and other tough fish like catfish and big shiners or chubs; if you want to keep them with more peaceful fish, make sure it's a big tank with lots of cover.

I have mine with rosy reds about a dozen who are now breeding but dollars have shown no interest in breeding.

Before filling the tub I put in pvc pipes as caves which are now green covered with algae and added floating plants with long roots like frogbit as was afraid of dollars killing each other.

I do notice the females will chase each other here and there but the tubes take care of that .

I dont know about Dollars (never had them.....the sunfish or the green ones) but you might try the NANFA forum they have experts who would know.

yup, NANFA. I got mine from brian zimmerman. good guy, knows what he is talking about and i think he breeds them.. They are really agressive. I had three in my 55g and one had half the tank, the other had half, and the small one got harassed back and forth all the time.

Winks, I also obtained mine from Brian Zimmerman as well. I am also an active member of NANFA. Great place to be.
