can anyone give any useful info on silver dollars ( i don't care how long or boring ) coz i just purchased 3 lovelys and at the moment i know they are messy eaters and they love eating my plants:irked: so i would love anything please that you might think is useful and zen.:feedback: many thanks

well all I know is that if you have live plants with silver dollar. Its like them having a salad buffet.so silver dollar and live plants dont mix.

well 3 silver dollars would need about a 55g tank for life minimum
they eat pelets not to big on frozen
try feeding them a mixture of omnivore and carnivore pelets but mostly omnivore because they mostly eat plants
theyre peacefull and they get a decent size
but just keep feeding them pelets for a good vibrant color
my friends mom has had the same silver dollars for like 10 years and she feeds them omnivore pelets and such
they have very nice colors
they even have streaks of red by theyre eyes and theyre bright silver
thats what they should look like

there are many different species of "silver dollars", some stay small, say 4-5", some get as big as dinner plates. but in general they do best in groups of 5 or more because they are a schooling, rather skittish fish. ive always considered em the trash cans of the hobby, eating anything and everything that hits the water.

I have kept silver dollars and theyre diet should mainly consist of veggies, they don't seem to like hornwart though

Mine eat anything that hits the water, including all veggies and algae wafers.

Help! I just bought 2 Silver Dollars and now they are just laying on their sides! The will move if the container(keeps them seprate from main tank till climatation is done) is moved, but just lay flat, still & barely movign their gills otherwise.

Are they dying? Was the ride home too rought? I noticed they are missign soem scales from their head as well.

ummm sometimes its shock.... if they dont get better in a day i would worry cuz i bought an oscar and a pike cichlid same time introduced them to the tank same time but the oscar would just chill at the back corners for a day or 3 he would eat tho.... but neways and the pike would swim around so happy... then the oscar got better everything is fine now

Thank you. Mine are better now. They perked up after a few hrs & really perked up wehn I let them loose with the other fish. Guess they just hated the shift in homes.
