I hunt and am defiantely not a member of PETA, but to see that is disturbing. I understand the cultural difference in Japanese cuisine. That I can understand. What bothers me is the inhumanity. There is no way I would dream of killing an animal so callously and slowly. When hunting, the main goal is to kill an animal as quickly and humanely as possible. Knowing that my freezer will be full and I will have meat for the next year, I still feel a pang of remorse when the animal is dead.
Now that we know of the intelligence and family bonds dolphins and whales posses, I think killing them is just criminal. If the populations of animals I hunt were threatened or had higher intelligence I would stop in a heartbeat. I'd never shoot an elephant if on safari for this same reason.
I know the eating of dolphins and whales is tradition in Japan, but there is no need for it anymore. I don't see many images of starving Japanese children on T.V. This is just cultural comfort food. And one of the reasons our oceans and planet are dying. Maybe if more people boycotted Japanese goods the government would pay attention.
More Kobe beef, less dolphin and whale Japan!

You sir! Could not have said it better. ;)

I know people need to eat, but DOLPHINS !!!!!!! That is really f'ed up, I get pissed at all of the damn cultures that eat all kinds of exotic foods just because they are going impotent, rhinos, tigers, turtles, sharks, just give those ignorant bastards Viagra and please leave these rare animals alone!

ROFL, i agree

Yeah, I don't think the associations some have said above about this being similar to slitting a babies throat are quite accurate, but wow, that's definitley overboard. i mean dolphins aren't your "run of the mill" schooling fish suited for consumption first of all, but c'mon that was a far less than desirable method of killing them anyway (as if being intellegent and beautiful wasn't a good enough reason to let them live). there were so many things wrong with that video. i can't believe they couldn't come up with a quicker more painless death for them...even though I think ultimately they shouldn't be fishing DOOLPHIN in the first place!!!

Asian culture has not the respect for life that we have... if you happen to travel over there you will see it on every corner of the road, be it china, be it japan...having said this, please avoid going into one of our state of the art slaughterhouses...the beef is still alive and kicking and it is already skinned...disgusting

Just thought i'd add to this, the first real data study on the shark fin trade is now estimated 38 million sharks are killed for it every year, much higher than the UN accepted 10 million. And at the same time people in china are prepared to spend 100 US dollars on a bowl of shark fin soup (that feeds 4 people). It is also supposed to be pretty tasteless. I think demand for it is another problem.
