I moved my breeding Jag pair 10' male 8" female (yes they have bred before) to my 90gal tank by themselves. When i got home from work today the male had beaten the crap outta the female. I put eggcrate between them but I'm not sure she's going to make it. Why did he turn on her like that? Will I have to keep them apart for good?
 
the female got beat up because she wasnt ready to breed. this happened to my pair when the fry were still with them - female got beat up. luckily i was watching this and separated them quickly.
i recommend that you separate them for some time and allow the female to heal up and get conditioned.
 
They are territorial....you changed everything they have"claimed" He would rather kill her than loose her(he doesn't know if there is a threat in the new tank yet)......Put them in, one at a time next time. And watch and make eye-contact, be at the ready with the net. Sometimes when they get moved they will change from they way they used to be forever....
 
I have them seperated now added some salt and turned the temp up. I'm going to see how she does over the next day or so hopefully and may have to melafix/pimafix her if necessary may move her to hospital tank for that.

They were in the 90 before. I moved them to the 125 for a bit but the pbass kept picking off the fry, so I moved them back to the 90 so they couild be alone. I don't want to loose either fish.

I feel sorry for your 8" female having to breed with a 10' male. :eek: :D :( :screwy:

Everybody's a freakin comedian! :ROFL: NOT But for you 10".
 
She put up one helluva a fight and lasted a cpl of days. Alas she succumbed to her injuries overnight. I found her when I got up for work this am. She was my first jag and I am going to miss her greatly. As you can she she was really battered.
