Here they are after the tank clean/ rearrangement. Thanks for the suggestions and info. Do you think I could get away with taking the rock out on the right?

I don't see why not!

Try adding some plants and perhaps blackwater extract to dim the light. In the meantime start saving up for a bigger tank, they grow quick! For 5 you need Atleast a 75 (48"x18"deep) but id say 90! Check CL and other classifieds for deals!

Agreed with most of what was said already. Temp is too high, tank is too small, a bully (maybe multiple if the shoal is large enough) is always going to rise in any shoal. Personally, i dont think multiple piranha should be kept in anything smaller than a 55, and that depends on the individual fish personalities and the keeper skill.

Either way, best of luck and keep us updated.

i agree with these gentlemen. the #1 problem is your tank is way the heck too small. it'll lead to casualties if one gets sick or injured as they're establishing territories.

congrats on successfully breeding guppies in the tank though

The tank I have right now used to have a huge driftwood piece that was taking up too much space. Once I took it out, my shoal was able to really swim freely. It gives them more space to move which equals growth ime. nice reds tho for sure. GL

Even if you take that dominant rbp out, another one will soon rise to the position. Temp is way too high... should be 72-77F. I used to worry similar to you but looking at this clip.... you won't worry too much. The elimination of the line of sight can help too.

Oops I meant to quote this earlier. I agree with this and mike

^ light can actually deter fighting for some shoals. My shoal fights more in the dark than when the tank light is on. I curb the aggression by turning the lights on at. But I rarely care anymore, it's inevitable keeping piranhas... i guess

First off, yes if you have 11 rbp, pbass and pleco and fh's all stuffed into a 125 taking out decor will give them space, but for the normally stocked and well maintained shoal tanks dw and hiding places promote breeding and natural behavior, this is why overstocking Piranhas is a bad idea, they need tons of swimming space and if that comes down to removing a piece of dw then you need to seriously rethink the reason why you have them or get a bigger tank!

The goal isn't to throw a ton fish into a tank, its to make them feel as comfortable as you possibly can and give them a natural "feeling" place to call home!

isn't the tank to bright ..i think rbp like dark waters

from my research

Most parts of the Amazon are Bw, with my shoal they seem to act more comfortable in Bw conditions and low light. Although not critical, imo mocking the same conditions as nature is ideal when keeping these fish, afterall their already stuck in aquariums, why not give them what they deserve?
