Photo 1 is the Argentea breeders he has, hard to see. I tried to circle the fish on the back right of the pic.

4 is actually an accidental dovii/pearsii cross that he has buyers for in Asia. One of those tank jumpers deals.

11 is Nebuliferus I believe, 9 is another accidental cross but I can't remember what it was. They are also going to asia.

Don is going to try and get in the hybrid asian market to see how that does. Not flowerhorns, but crosses like you see above.

Dovii pearsi cross was not what I would have guessed. Heh.

My LFS has had some of the nebuliferus from Don in for a while, it's on my want list I just don't have the room right now. They look great.

Does he get a lot of accidental hybridization? Seems like a liability especially if he has two similar species next to each other.

He is kind of famous for his hybrids, in a non complimentary way

I am sure you have heard that sir, but I have no first hand knowledge

Vieja hybrids

I would LOVE to go and see this place. The knowledge and all of the fish... Id be one broke d_ck when I left and I would have fish on top of fish as soon as I got home...LOL

i have been wondering about getting a tour of his place. I am in Tampa and he is not too far away but I didn't know if he would let me check it out or not. How hard was it for you to get him to let you check it out?

I emailed him off of his website, he mailed back with a number and we set up a time and date.

Yeah, everything I've heard has been second or third hand without much proof to back it up.

This is the closest to first hand proof one can get without actually being there.

He didn't say he did. One was jumping over the wall between the cinderblock ponds and one was from his dirt ponds. The dirt ponds are connect by 2" pvc and the pearsi must have swam up the pvc. He said he only found the one female pearsi in the whole dovii pond.

I think anyone who has a setup like he does is going to have some hybridization.
