I heard on our local news in Ohio there have been many fish farms that have suffered great losses in Florida due to the freeze. Does anyone know if Don Conkel's has had issues? Reason I ask I;ve attempted to contact them w/out response for a couple of weeks....

Don moved the majority of his fish to CA so he should be okay. He may be down there avoiding the cold.

im willing to bet if you have a tropical fish farm in most parts of florida, your in some hardcore trouble right now.

i read n my local paper 2 days ago, that one southern FL fish farm lost over 200,000 fish already, as their pond has ice in it, when its usually green with algae blooms still....or something to that effect

This was in our Fort Lauderdale paper today ....

Here is an excert on the guy from the video..

Fewer than 10 association members are based in Broward and Palm Beach counties and another seven or eight are in Miami-Dade, Boozer said. The ongoing cold spell has resulted in the loss of more than 100,000 tropical fish – a $535,000 hit for one Palm Beach County fish farmer.

"We're in the position of being completely completely wiped out…the farm is a total loss," said Michael Breen, of Breen Acres Aquatics in Loxahatchee Groves. Despite the loss, Breen said he'd no plans to quit, but in the meantime would concentrate on his live fresh water bait business, which was doing well.

"Those fish are coldwater tolerant," Breen said.

And here is another that might be a ray of sunshine in a cold front of clouds..

In the worst cases, federal aid might be available. Farmers with losses of more than 50 percent can file crop insurance claims with the Department of Agriculture to receive assistance. The area's congressman, Adam H. Putnam, a Republican, is closely monitoring the situation

Hopefully they can rebound quickly ...

Also I can tell you I had a 110 stock tank with Tropicals in it. Tetras silver dollars swordtail redtail black shark etc... I had a 300 watt heater with the tank half drained and covered... They did fine for the first 5 days ..but the second day of low in the 30's and high in the 50's they were floating on Sunday morning... I had read somewhere on here last year about getting them and putting them in warm water. I did a mix of that and warm water and tested 3 fish. They started moving and swimming. I ran to Walmart and got a 20 gallon plastic clear tote and a small heater and filter. I only lost ONE fish in that tank from about 20 that were floating and looking dead. I want to thank whoever that was that posted that last year about reviving their oscar or something in a sump in the tank inside.

I did lose guppies in the other stock tank but my 3 goldies and my wildcaught mollies are doing good.
