Don't adopt an escape artist

mine hid in the filter all the time. pull your filters and check if he is in there.

My brother had a fiddler crab tank in his daughter's bed room with 4 or 5 of them. He said they were amazing to watch, but he had to get rid of them because they kept climbing out of the tank.
Fiddler crabs walking across a wood floor at night does not make for a restful night for a little girl.

I went to a store, and saw a cute fiddler crab, so I inquired about him. They said it was free, because they had just found him in the store th day before. they hadn't carried them in six months, so he spent six months walking around the store feeding on crickets.

Well, I decided he was adorable and wanted to house him on the land part of my crayfish tank. The two avoided each other for two days, so I was happy that they weren't going to bother fighting. But, the past few days he has been MIA. I took all of the rocks out of the tank and checked the filter. He's gone!!! I put a piece of net over the opening around the filter and had a net with a metal wand holding it down.

If he can escape a store which has a habitat made to keep him from escaping, then my homemade piece of crap idea isn't going to work.

Never adopt an escape artist....

lol seems everyone who has them has some escape story to tell

Seriously.....the reason being they don't belong in full tanks. They make a good specimen for a brackish setup with a beach type deal.

i think its safe to say that after two months, the crab is GONE! lol

he had a half water half rock setup, with some feeders living in the water for him. i'm sure he's dead by now, but i mean he did survive over a month in the store out of a tank so two months seemed likely still lol

haha so no world on the escaped crab? i hate these things, i could never keep them in the tank when i was a kid. i would find them down the hallway lol

lol i kno this feeling !
i keep red claw crabs and blue lobsters and they are always getting free !
the trick is to leave small tubs (ice cream tubs work well) half filled with aquarium water all around the house and 9 times outta 10 it will be found within 3 days when it becomes dehydrated !
bit late for the info i know but will help if you ever get another crab !

matt123 hit the nail on the head, I use a low, easy to climb water source in a shady spot (under a desk) and the crabs will usually return there.
