dont feed goldfish why? i feed mine goldfish and if im not suppose too what should i feed him? i use baby bass bluegills and minnows but theyre hard to catch at that size

Despite all the back and forth, I endorse the use of feeder fish, though not as the primary diet. I also agree that Hikari is by far the best staple food for these fish.

Isolate your feeders in a separate aquarium for several weeks before you feed them to your fish. You can isolate and remove any sick feeders. In the meantime, gutload your feeders. I heavily feed mine algae wafers, spirulina, and bloodworms. This technique is especially helpful at getting vegetable matter in the diet of picky carnivorous fish without resorting to starvation.

The ideal diet for oscars may be pellets, but there are fish out there that absolutely need live foods, especially other fish. To ensure healthy fish, make sure your feeders are healthy.

regardless of the conditions they are kept in, goldfish and all species of carp contain excessive levels of thiaminase which breaks down vit. b1 and can lead to stunting and illness.

This is another reason I said as a treat only and not as a staple diet.

This is the exact reason I refrain from live feeders with my Dempsey's. Mine are also picky, and after I fed them ghost shrimp, I had to starve them basically for about 3 days to get them back on their regular food.

.

I agree with this method if you want to feed your fish live feeders. I work at a pet store and we get 1000 feeder goldfish every week! No matter what we do there's always a chance of disease, especially ich.
However, it seems like a lot of trouble just to watch your fish chase and eat something....
