I had just purchase another fire eel (about 5 inches) of the same size as my first fire eel, but it's getting beat up by the first eel. :irked: I seen other people with two of them together. Right now I have them in a 55 gallon tank. I'll be upgrading to a 210 gallon in a month or two. Do u guys think the 55 is too small for the two? Any info would help, thanks :help2:

next time before you release the new fish, rearrange the setup of the tank a little, so that when the new fish is released, its less stressful because he wont be the only one finding a hidey hole. this technique resolved the aggression in my eels.

make sure u have lots of hideing places for both eels.

make sure their hiding spots are on opposite sides of the tank. I rearranged all of my stuff prior to releasing my 2 new guys in w/ my original one and there was still alot or territorial displays and some fin nipping. I've also been keeping my older guy well fed, and moved things around again to make 2 piles of pipes one on each side. makeing obviouse territories. Thats seemed to do the trick as well as a swat on the nose! lol the other option is get a divider until you get the new tank. then move them into it at the same time. and sometimes fire eels just don't like their own species. "males" i believe can get very territorial. but I have yet to find information on diffinitive sexing of this species. which is why I have 3.. to try and pair them off or get lucky and have 2 f and 1m if they'll play nice. my original one is deffinately more aggresive towards 1 of my newer eels over the other. yet still nippy with both. Hope yours settle down and play nice! also watch out for bacterial infections on the new one from the stress/nipping.

I'm sure you guys are gonna wonder why i have a 16in silver arrowana in there too with the two eels lol. My arrowana has never shown aggression towards any of my fish, not even the clown loach. But thats not the point, the point is, do u notice the two piles of rock, one for each eel.... they seem to be doing good at the moment.

Don't they do anything else other than hide all day long. Feeding time is the only time i really get to see them :( maybe if it wasn't for my larger fish i guess it would be better lol

lol ya thats pretty much what they do. but during feeding time then they become very interactive and more enjoyable.
