This is quite a humorous one, but still a lesson learned. In my first experience with gutloading for a Reptile. I knew I needed some kind of fruit to feed them, and I was home alone, so rather than asking my mom for a chunk of an apple to feed them, I grabbed a piece of tangerine and tossed it into the tupperware container. My Leopard Gecko didn't seem to mind, eating heartily on his first full day, later that night, and the next 2 nights, including last night. The mealworms were equally happy, completely eating the tangerine, even the peel, and turning it into a chunky brown mulch. The sugar fermented and turned into a mild alcohol. It was possibly the worst thing I have ever smelled, maybe besting when my dad dropped a case of beer, and it sat in the basement rug for a week. The fermented tangerine was so bad that I had to throw the whole thing, tupperware container, mealworms and all, out the window.
So there ya go, why not to gutload mealworms with tangerine. I will never get that small out of my nose.
