haha gotcha..

It's so hard for me to feed my baby bichirs when kept with datnoides...for those who never had a dats, they're super super fast when it comes to food.

My 75 overstock grow out tank includes..

6 - Indo dats (they were 3/4"-1" in january, now, they're pushing 4")
1 - Thin Bar Dat (5-6")
2 - Galaxy / Vampire Plecos (4")
1 - Johanna Pike (4")
1 - Leichardti arowana - 7-8"
1 - Fei Feng 5"
1 - Tigrinus 8"
1 - Jurense 8"

Polyp..

1 - Delhezi 5"
1 - Endli Endli 5"
1 - Long Fin Sen 6"
1 - Buttie 5"

Now, feeding time is so much fun to watch, I can litteraly drop about 10 pellets of massivore delight AND 10-15 small chunks of market shrimp or cut up silverside and none of them would make it to the bottom. I guess my dats and aro just don't really know when to quit eating lol..

I have been using feeding prong to put the food right in front of the bichir's mouth. 2 out of 3 times, the dats or the aro would steal the food before making it to the bottom.

If you have similar stock as mine, I'd like to hear what method if you have any to feed the bottom dwellers..

I'd like to feed them twice a day to get them pump up. But it's pretty difficult to do with " Super fast moving constantly very hungry fish" around the bichirs..lol

try feeding 3 rays with 7 large widebars.... dats are almost like catfish bottomless pits

Guess im lucky my dats dont eat pellets as these get straight to my ornates that have gone from 3in to 6in and FAT in 3mths. Not sure if my baby senegal will grow as fast surprised he isnt dead yet.

Get yourself a long stiff piece of pipe like PVC, put the end near the bottom where the bichirs are, and drop your food down the pipe. I don't have that problem, my bichir hangs out at the surface at feeding time and competes. Yours may too eventually.

BTW that post scared me, I was thinking of adding a dat to my comm that includes a bichir, you'd have scared me off :(

datnoids and bichirs do great together if you can get past this porblem pike cichids eat a ton to

i would feed at night that would help the bichirs the catfish would still be a problem but it would be eazier then competing with all the dats and the aro

all my fish in the grow out get along very well. They're too big for one another to feed on...*knock on wood*

I may try the PVC pipe, I may even use a clear acrylic pipe for my amusement of the dats and the aro trying get to the food inside the clear pipe lol..

it would be funny, but then they would follow it down and get the food anyway.

still... it would be woth trying for the amusement:)

but your best bet is with the coloured stuff.

I never had a problem with dats taking all the food, then again i do feed like 5 pounds of food when i do feed.

keep feeding everyone else until they stop eating and the food can make it to the bottom...that's what i do twice a day hahaha...
