Get yourself a long stiff piece of pipe like PVC, put the end near the bottom where the bichirs are, and drop your food down the pipe. I don't have that problem, my bichir hangs out at the surface at feeding time and competes. Yours may too eventually.

BTW that post scared me, I was thinking of adding a dat to my comm that includes a bichir, you'd have scared me off :(

clear tubing is the best... watch the dats try to get to the food but they cant... keeps them active....

this didnt work for me though as they learned to wait at the bottom of the tube for the food....

Clear tube works about 1 out of 10 tries...all my dats are pretty smart I guess..They just wait until it hit the bottom and they'll get the food.

I think I'll take the baby polypterus and put them in a 20 gallon growout for now, until...

1. The dats get bigger and they can move to the big tank, then the polypterus can go back in the 75.

2. The polypterus get at least 10-12" and I can put them straight in the big tank..

My 75 overstock grow out tank includes..

6 - Indo dats (they were 3/4"-1" in january, now, they're pushing 4")
1 - Thin Bar Dat (5-6")
2 - Galaxy / Vampire Plecos (4")
1 - Johanna Pike (4")
1 - Leichardti arowana - 7-8"
1 - Fei Feng 5"
1 - Tigrinus 8"
1 - Jurense 8"

Polyp..

1 - Delhezi 5"
1 - Endli Endli 5"
1 - Long Fin Sen 6"
1 - Buttie 5"
Nice growout...... maybe time to think of renaming it to just "overstocked" tank.

I do not really have this feeding problem since I have bigger bichirs. I have 18 bichirs to 1 dat ratio. All my bichirs are 9" and up and the dat is only 3" so he's scared to steal food from the bichir. The dat would steal from my 3" black ghost knife though. He picks on fish his own size. Smart fish!

The tank is overstock, but the water quality are superb. The growth on the fish are a true testament to that.

For filtration, I am using..

2 - FX 5 BIO
1 - Eheim 2217 BIO
2 - AC110 for mechanical.

On top of that I do 2 WC per week.

you obviously don't feed enough lol.

feed larger portions so they can't eat all of it before it hits the ground. if its over stocked, others will eat the scraps
