ok i have a 75g tank with 4 RBP, and i dont know wich filter to get for it, currently it has 2 peguin 330 HOB filters, im tired of cleaning them, than getting the nitrite spike. im looking to get a decent filter to put on it, any reccomendations. and i dont want to spend a whole pay check on just a filter if you know what i mean... thanks in advance

Didnt you just ask this?

oh ok. I say go Eheim 2217. I have a 2215 (93g rated) on my 75 with a peng 350. You could go 2215 because you have two other filters. Eheim's are good though. 2215 or 2217. Your choice.

Howdy,

The brand is of little discussion if you read the sticky on reliability. I run a 2217 on my 75 gal, but I am considering an upgrade to the 2250. You want biofiltration?! It doesn't get much bigger.

Just my $ 0.02

Well you could go with one and then keep the 2217 on. Eheim's are low in biological filtration, unless you buy the special media for it. IMO, 1 peng, 1 2217. The special media is expensive anyway.

My LFS told me Eheim's are great in biological filtration. Is the 2250 the wet/dry additon?

i wish i could eliminate my HOB filters all together.... but i see most people still running 2 filters.. a canister and HOB....

No, the 2250 is not wet/dry, you would need one of the pro2 series for that.
The 2217 is in the same market segment as the Fluval 403/404. The Eheim 2250 and 2260 are labelled by Eheim as the largest of "Classic" filters, they are not as easy to service as the new "flagship" Pro 3 2080, but as Harley K states they don't get bigger in terms of size hence biological filtration capacity, both have good pump outputs too, not as powerful as Fluval FX5 but a lot more media capacity AND Eheim's legendary bullet-proof reliability. I bought two FX5's last year by the way, and am beginning to regret it already. IMO if you are unlikely to upgrade your tank size your best bet is either a "classic" 2217 or a "Pro 2 series" 2028, I have expericne of both and they were great. If you will probably upgrade at some point and can pay a bit more (Eheim's WILL last for 10 years easily) then the choice you have is Eheim's "classic" 2250 or 2260, or Eheim's new "Pro 3" 2080. If choosing one of these three I'd say 2260 hands down, less "bells and whistles than Pro 3 but more powerful and better value. Good luck!
