So I have noticed that I am no longer enjoying my tank. Sure I have some awesome fish but most of which i never ever see. I am already overstocked so adding new is not an option. I am thinking about getting rid of all of my reclusive catfish and tire track eel and only keeping the channel cat,EBJD,BGK and a baby lima. I would like to add one or 2 more cichlids that have nice color to increase the amount of activity in the tank. As of now it just looks like a some sand and rocks in water with no fish. Any suggestions on what to put in there?

The tank is only a 45 atm, I will be moving to a 125-180 shortly. Primary reason why I am getting rid of fish and only want to replace with one or 2.

I would get an arowana if I were you and you were getting a big enough tank. They were the most interesting and active fish I've kept and just look really cool. Make feeding time fun too

I would love to but do not know much about growth rate. The upgrade will only be a temporary tank as well. As soon as me and the wife get our house put up my first project is a 8'x8'4' above ground pond. Was going to wait until I get the large tank before I get an aro. My LFS is cool and will take any fish and give you credit but I dont want to get attached to an aro and then only get to keep him a month or 2 if something delays the new tank any further.

Yeah totally understand

I would get rid of everything you have and start from scratch other wise you wont be happy. Forget about the upgrade work with what you have at the moment and you will be happier with the results. you can stock the 180 when you get it. by keeping what you say you are keeping you are over stocked and have fish that will keep any new fish in hiding. Understocking is way more enjoyable you get to see fish grow and see there personality instead of having a depressed tank.

I would start with a group of one of the following types; Honduran Red Points, Rainbow Cichlids, Firemouths they are colorful and good personality plus they can work as dithers for your 180.

Well I know for sure I am keeping my EBJD and BGK. Yes i know the BGK will out grow the tank but they are a pretty slow grower from what I have read. He actually comes out a lot so I get to see him. So whatever I add has to be compatible with those 2 fish. I would love something deep read. I found a blood red and black parrot cichlid but dont know if those would work. I want to downsize on stock a lot. I got a bit over board when I first got the 45 and believe it or not have actually got rid of a lot of my fish that was in the tank already.

Your 45 is really overstocked. I would follow rivers advise. Keeping fish is one thing keeping them in optimal conditions is another. Dont get an aro you dont have a large enough tank

Yea I am definatley getting rid of fish. Even after I add the one or 2 more I will still have a lot less fish in there then what I have now. I wouldnt get an aro as even after I upgrade that aro is not going to be able to live in the bigger tank forever. Its one thing to grow out but I know when I can get the bigger tank, I dont know when I will be able to build the pond.
