Well, I came home today from class and my little sister who lives with me had done an uber clean on the house! yay right? well I went to check my tank and wouldnt you know, every one of the fish is belly up :nilly:. I instantly asked her what she did, "im sorry" was the only response I could get out of her. Apparently in trying to do a nice thing she cleaned the glass on my tank with 409 but she sprayed it directly on the glass instead of on a towel away from the tank. It was poisoned, so I just spent the last 3 hrs tearing it all down, tossing the substrate, filter media and wipeing/washing everything with copius ammounts of fresh water. Tommarow re-boot fresh again.:(

sorry for your loss, get some vinegar for her next time. Been using it to clean the glass for years without ill effect

That sucks. Sorry to hear.

oh crap... I cleaned the outside of my tank with window cleaner before I started starting it up. It's cycling right now, do I need to tear down and restart?!

no i spray my cleaner directly on every time, I just make sure the tops are shut and that im not spraying it directly into the water.

They do have special glass cleaner that will not harm the fish. Try to go to your LFS, ask for something like that its what i use

It was a 75, it had an Oscar, Wild collected Texas, and a Con..I was out brow beating vets and LFS's for an effective treatment of some camallanus the Oscar had, and I did get ahold of some levamisol only to get home to find dead fish, irony at its finest. Oh well...save it for a rainy day right? I got the tank all cleaned up and redy to restart, I smeared carbon powder/bakeing soda paste all over the inside of the tank (esp the silicone) let it sit for a good couple hrs while I ate dinner and watched a movie then sucked it out with a wet/dry vac. So off to get new substrate/canister media tommarow and hopefully with a seeded "bio bag" from my 30g sliped over the intake of my FX5 it should be good to go in a few days. I think I might adopt one of the "it got to big for my 20g -donation" oscars from my LFS, and thanks for the kind words guys!
