I have a 670 gallon show tank that I am currently housing some koi in due to medical issues. Well, it was a spontaneous thing and we had to make due with a 800gph sub pump, and a rubbermaid tote filled with bio balls for the filter.
This has been up and been going with fish in it just fine for the last month.
All of a sudden today, my husband says "I put some matala filter and some quilt batting in the filter get get the fish poo better"
Not thinking anything of it, I said ok, and we both went to work.
I came home about 5, and I heard this gushing water sound. I rushed down stairs into our basement to see that the filter got clogged from the "new filtering" and it was spewing over the top of the tote all over the floor.
the drywall is ruined, it seeped under our 1500 gallon WOODEN tank, and into the superior walls of our tank.
Thank GOD the fish are ok. There is still a foot of water left in the tank out of 4...
I was just reading a thing on here yesterday about stupid things people have done, and I said to myself "Thank goodness I haven't had an overflow"
F***!
Yay for the basement not being finished.
