Well I did tell you that I agreed that fishkeeping was cruel and had it's problems when we last "debated".

this is my reasons to after watching a show about reef depleation i took my rock and fish back to the lfs my equipment is in the buy and sell sect here i refuse to support the farming habits of coral and sw fish (only had the sw tank up a month the attendent thought i was nuts for my reasons screw em i say) peace FNH......
 
fishnutham - In defense to reefkeepers, there are responsible ones who propagate
corals and sell them off or trade w fellow hobbyists so at least they try to help in their own way. Clownfish and Damselfish are bred in the aquaria and commercially so thats good.

As long as the methods of collecting fish and corals are responsible and not take as much as you can , then salwater is still good .

Sandtiger - Fishkeeping is, in a way ,cruel IMO. Much like birds that are kept in captivity (privately ) are birds that would not be able to fly free. So, yeah.

correct me if i'm wrong but its illeagle to import live coral because of the methods in use in the tropical locals this has lead reef keepers to propergate coral which is a good thing we need our reefs to survive ,my problem lies withen the goverment regulations of shipping and importation not with sw keepers this has given all aquatist a bad rep hence my posting i would like too see this misconception changed we need to inform the public and show the concern we have for endangered fish and rock by trying to save them with breeding

At the risk of sounding like Peta keeping any animal is cruel in a way. I think my cats, reptiles, rabbit and fish are all happy but there is still a certain level of cruelty. I don't agree with the keeping of birds, that may make me a hypocryte but I still won't support it. The only was I would own a bird is if I were to adopt one from the ASPCA of something.
