Hi guys, I'm sure most of you know this already but netting arowana is a bad idea.
A few days ago I netted my largest RTG so I could quickly measure him. He was 8" but unfortunately whilst wriggling in the net he managed to break of his caudal fin and most of his anal fin. Needless to say I was pretty pissed and felt like a right idiot.
Luckily a few days later his fins are starting to grow back and hopefully he will be back to normal soon.

I also don't use net when catching aros as sometimes when you catch them with a net they rub off their barbels on the net. I use a plastic bag to catch them.
i agree i only use nets for smaller aros, but i got to be cautious when doing so

That's why I thought it would be okay as it's only 8" in a big net. Turns out they were more fragile than I expected. I'll be using bags in future and only if I have to.

Kumusta Kababayan? Do you use anything to calm aro down before coaxing it to get into bag planning to move my Aro in his new tank in 2 months

Just use a big bag and be careful they'll usually try to jump while doing this. Still works the best IMO.

i use a bag in one end of the tank and use the net as a big scary thing out to get it so they run into the bag...they get real pissed when they realise they are in the bag...my 24"+ silver i sold almost missed the tank on rentry after a 2ft vertical flight...that was cool and scary to see...

They make rubber nets now for fishing. The fish won't get tangled or caught on anything with these nets. Much safer for aros or large catfish, etc.

Yes but that doesnt take away the fact that your fish will be flopping and writhing around inside the rubber net which will still cause it to lose fins.
