I use the a large net to corral them so i can garb them with wet hands when need be.

Kumusta Kababayan? Do you use anything to calm aro down before coaxing it to get into bag planning to move my Aro in his new tank in 2 months

I guide it with a net or just guide it with my hand while the bag is open. It's easy to do with large aros are they are usually calm. Small aros tend to to all over the place.

No need to guide it into bag My Aro Died 2 days ago , am still wondering as to what happened? was changing water when it happened

Sorry for your loss, but wtf???

Fish wouldn't just die on you like what you described. There must be some hints. Like my 8" bala shark died a minute after I heard a big noise in the tank - it got nipped by my jar unexpectedly and spooked and hit the tank wall/top and hence died from head damage.

i really wanted to get an accurate measurement of my jar but don't have the gut to hold him still in the tank (i don't believe he'd like that!) nor to try to bag him simply for taking measurement.

I wish my jar could be calm like Koji's fish; I saw many pics where he just hold him still in the tanks for taking meas. and pics. Is it the fish or the owner then? ;)

Hi guys, I'm sure most of you know this already but netting arowana is a bad idea.
A few days ago I netted my largest RTG so I could quickly measure him. He was 8" but unfortunately whilst wriggling in the net he managed to break of his caudal fin and most of his anal fin. Needless to say I was pretty pissed and felt like a right idiot.
Luckily a few days later his fins are starting to grow back and hopefully he will be back to normal soon.

LESSON LEARNED!!

why on earth would you want to put your fish through all that stress just to measure it?!

surely you can get a good idea of size just by looking?

I was hoping it would be quick. Simply scoop him out put the measure next to him then pop him back in. However he went crazy in the net and damaged his fins. Like I said, lesson learned. I won't be doing it again.
The funny thing is my guess was right after I measured him so it was all for nothing :screwy:

Do Caudal fins grow back if it is cut in half? Just curious since you noted it was damaged
