Probably too small.. a 5 gallon is more like a kids setup.. I think neon tetra is cool in there.. but other than that.. its really to small for breeding..

A single dwarf puffer would work in a 5 gallon.

Guppy males tend to harass guppy females, so a ratio of 1 male to 2 or 3 females is really better. Also, this isn't large enough. I'd say a Betta. Maybe some shrimp with plants? The problem is small gallons is keeping water quality stable, and doing enough water changes to keep nitrates down, which becomes more of an issue with the more fish you stock.

:iagree:

Yes.. a 5 gallon will be perfect for 1 betta fish and possibility a small species of Pleco.. a rubber lip or the flash pleco.. something that wont get past 3"

Or turn it into a nano reef tank.. but even then.. i think it has to be 10gallon...

Theres not much to work with in a 5 gallon.. might as well use it as a feeder tank..

LOL only a feeder tank if your fish are on a diet. I QT feeders in a 55. My gars are very hungry folks. :nilly:

Please re-read my post, and the psychological crowding which occurs with guppies. Male guppies will literally harass a female guppy to death. They will attempt to mate with anything, all day long. This is the nature of livebearers. It would not be a healthy environment for the female guppy. She would most likely be too stressed to even give birth. You could do ONE male guppy, and just pick the most handsome specimen you can find. Please also make note of the issues with water volume vs. waste.

Edit: Sorry for edit, but I'd like to stress that I'm guessing you want a tank you can ENJOY, rather than worry about. Thus, my advice. This small tank will quickly become a problem if mis-stocked. Here's a photo of my 5-gallon Betta tank. It has driftwood with Anubias Nana. I think it's nice.

how about 2 female fancy guppys there fro i wouldnt have the male trying to mate with her all the time? and yeah that tank is nice looking!

Yeah, I think 2 females would work, but wouldn't be as big of an impact as one male guppy, or even a big, beautiful male Betta. It's really up to you. By the way, my tank has the generic light bulb that comes with the fixture for a 5 gallon tank, and I still have to clean my plant monthly of algae! The plant, which I bought from LiveAquaria.com, is three times the size it was. These are definitely low-light plants.
