Since I don't keep snakes this doesn't bother me. But I can see how it upset those that do

It's a very small step from this to tying up a dog and shooting it with arrows (this happened locally to a huskie, the teens didn't even go to jail) and an even smaller step to doing it to children.

I would have actually killed those kids if that was my dog. It would be worth the jail time.

I was hoping the punishment would fit the crime ... literally. But alas, not the case.

i don't disagree that killing a snake is cruel to the snake...but can you please show me a documented case of someone being arrested for killing a not protected species of snakes?

i think most people place a higher value on human life then animal life (it's lead to some very interesting debates on this site including the treatment of our own fish). therefor, it's a HUUUGE step for most of the population to go from mistreating an animal to mistreating another human. it's amusing to me to see that people are equating this with psychopaths and future mistreatment of another human.

i bet there's more people who have done stupid things in their developmental stage involving any form of animal life and lived a normal productive adult then there are that ended up true psychopaths.

Typical overblown story from the internet.

I'm sorry but to most people this isn't any different then capturing a few ants and killing them.

Because high level (300-400) criminal psychology classes do focus on that when it comes to early detection of psychopaths ... it's not just pop psychology form criminally horrible crime shows like CSI. The lack of empathy is the key more than the cruelty, because a lack of empathy carries further into life. Also keep in mind not all psychopaths are killers, despite what those pop psychology crime shows depict. But yes, they do have a higher percentage of becoming one if they can't/won't understand how others feel from their actions. Not every person that fried ants with a magnifing glass are psychopaths obviously, but a large amount of them that boiled puppies alive are (as an example I remember from my classes/books).

It is highly amusing to note that three Judeo religions produce the highest percentage of psychopaths versus other religions, most point to the elevation of human life and the devaluing of other life as the cause. Of course that's a totally different thread on a different site. I'm sure it's against the rules here. I only bring it up since I've been in those debates about the blatant lack of regard of life amongst forum posters. Why have pets if you don't value them?

Yes, because most don't like snakes they don't make the same fuss as if it were a pet dog for instance. It seems life devalues more the further it gets away from humans, which is silly.

Unfortunately I agree with you. Most people wouldn't put at snake at the same level as a dog either.

And yes, Eddie isn't the only one who did things while younger that they aren't really proud of now that they are older and more mature.
