I've watched enough CSI-type shows to consider myself a decent arm chair detective 
Sarcasm aside, the most disturbing thing to me is the level of overkill. I don't think it should otherwise take 10+ nails to the head for a snake to hit the bucket...it seems safe to assume there was some level of joy as a result of the death rather than doing it for more practical reasons (ie. for food or out of fear or danger).
Can't say I did anything like this when I was younger nor do I know anyone who did. Maybe it's a cultural thing. But the fact that it was posted to FB (publicly, which is pretty stupid anyways) implies there was some sort desire for a social response. Perhaps they got what they wanted...I don't know...
Regardless, I'm not entirely sure what constitutes animal cruelty or whether it is anything law enforcement would even act on...nor do I think it's something that 100% means these kids are budding sociopaths or serial killers. But that doesn't make it any less troubling to look at.
