Don't think Cichlid are social fish.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So if your arowana starts killing the loaches are you going to kill it off too. Fish can only deal with the situations we put them in, so IMO your responsible for the murders of all the fish.

Thank you Bderick67 I'm happy to shoulder my responsibilities as a fish keeper.
As always by asking advice from more experienced posters i made a decision to put the CLs in with the RTG. I didn't ask about big cross bred Cichlid parrots though so there is some mistake on my behalf. Calling me a murder is a bit strong but you're entitled to your opinion.
I think we should always shoulder the responsibility for fish that die while in our care, even if it comes from simple miscalculated mistakes, don't you?

not social that rediculous, some of my cichlids were dying to meet my cat.

LOL I presume the cat is of the feline variety. Does that make your cat a murderer? or was it following it's instincts to eat fish? That raises the question of you being accessory.

I however am guilty as charged, I killed one of my fish because it disrupted all of my now peaceful tank.
However, it was killing other fish for no other reason than killing for fun.

I wouldn't kill the Aro of course Bderick67, it's the main fish of the tank. If it started eating the CLs I'd put it down to experience, after all RTGs and CL come from the same waterways so I'm not messing with the food chain too much. I would guess the CL is the natural pray of a lot of predatory fish in Indonesian waterways, hence the barbs they have.
If a fish dies on any owner, be it complacency, poor water, bad food, in with the wrong tank mates or a lump hammer to the head are will all not guilty to some level?
If a fish is taken out of a tank because it is killing others for fun is some of the guilt not expunged to some degree? Is an owner who kills a fish from negligence more guilty than an owner who kills a fish to try and restore balance?

I think what eveybody is saying is that maybe you should have tried to give the fish a new home first. Gotta remember though you posted that you killed a fish just because of a territory thing and not because it was sick, you are going to hear SLACK from just about everybody.

No, you are guilty not the parrot. You introduced the two, you are responsible.
As I wrote before “I'm happy to shoulder my responsibilities as a fish keeper.”
SLR-Turtle, I also asked if other fish keepers are guilty when their fish die due to neglegance and if so, to a higher or lower degree, not if it was me or my now dead cross bred cichlid parrot who should shoulder the guilt.
I killed one of my fish because of territorial reasons, It was me that introduce all the other fish I have in to the tank with the cross bred cichlid parrot. I'm guilty of it's death!
I can live with it; I didn’t murder all the fish though as wrote by Bderick67, He's just p***ed at me because I pointed a few of his faults out to him and I presume he doesn't like it.
My questions in simple terms….
If you buy a fish put it in a small tank and it dies, are you guilty?
If you buy a fish and forget to feed it and it dies, are you guilty?
If you buy a fish and it you never change the water and poison it, are you guilty?
If you buy a fish and for any reason including miscalculations like lids and it dies, are you guilty?
IMHO the answer to every question above is “yes”.
If you where to ask are you guilty of murder then the answer is “No”.

Murderer:

A person guilty of murder; A person who, in possession of his reason unlawfully kills kills a human being with premeditated malice.

Sorry but I can’t find anything about killing a fish.
I’ll admit to be irresponsible, rash even stupid for realizing what would happen when I introduced the CLs, (something I’ve already admitted too), and if anybody buys a fish and it dies because of any of the reasons above, even if they can’t pin point the reason they are as guilty as me, guilty of being irresponsible, rash or even stupid.
Killing animals is sport for some people, I wouldn’t call them murderers though. A bit silly, maybe, irresponsible, stupid even. When I wrote about guilt being expunged it was a bit tongue in cheek, bue to the reference to a cat eating Cichlids, I wasn’t trying to exonerate myself of guilt or resposability.

you’re 100% correct, it would have been difficult but I should have tried. Instead I acted rashly and killed it.
Thing is I can live with “slack” and I welcome it if I deserve it. I made a mistake I should get slack and learn from it, not all can though. Some will not admit things are directly related to a mistake they made and cannot and will not take slack.
I'm having Cod for dinner tonight, I know we over fish them but man they taste nice!

If anyone did this to my house, I would be searching craigslist, calling local and non local pawn shops, ebay. If I caught them during the act I would stab them ( I have two knifes in my room, for uhh...aquarium stuff)
LOL

Just to cap it off, the lessons I learnt which I would like to pass on to others is, don't think the threat to new fish in your tank will only come from your predators.
Exotic fish in general are expensive, think about the fish you'd least expect to attack new fish and how much damage the usually placid fish will do if they do decide to kill your new fish.
I lost 40 Dollars worth of Clown Loaches in a day to a fish that cost me 3 Dollars.

The second lesson which I’d like to thank JohnM for is, don’t overreact when the stuff starts going down because there’s probably a better solution.
My RTG allows the CLs to swim with it, and my (now gone because I overreacted) cross bred cichlid killed them. It was completely the opposite of what I expected to happen.
