The DVR woman is trying to get you to take 20 hours to start with probably because you have never worked before. You have to crawl before you can run and it takes time to get into the swing of things if you have never done it before.
She has quite a bit more experience than you, I would not fight her on this. You can always pick up more hours once you get used to working. I have never known any workplace not to have extra hours going, I would imagine it is practically the same in the US.

Where I'm living (FL) you have to fight for hours. You can ask but most employers (grocery/retail) don't have them to give to you.

You also have to remember its slow season, I live in FL too and summer is always slow... starting this month there will be lots of hours to pick up esp with holidays coming. I ve worked for publix (always had extra hours unless it was 3-4months over summer), theme parks (which always have hours to give) and car dealerships (which also has hours to give) I guess it depends on your location. Its getting the job in my area that is the hard part.

LBF- You really need to make a decision for yourself and not ask people... you wont grow up if you keep depending on other peoples opinions and what they think. You need to seriously slow down with the tanks and enjoy the one you have. Getting more even one more is costly and a mistake imo. I am someone who worked hard and saved up a bunch of money before I moved out and it helped but when I moved out of the first place I lived (townhome with roomates) to a more expensive place my money drained fast for move in fees, pet fees and what not. I didn't save nearly enough and I moved out with just shy of 3k. Most of the stuff I own I paid for in cash when I lived at home with my parents... I can afford my tanks because I already own everything. I have kayaks because I bought it a few years before I moved out. Its like that with 95% of what I own. I bought what i wanted and still saved up quite a bit of money for someone who worked a min pay part time job and went to school. You really have learn how to shop, how to manage money, what you NEED as ooposed to what you WANT. There is a BIG difference. You need to realize this. I dont have cable as it is not a NEED, I have internet only as it is cheap and I NEED it for school work and to check assignments online when I may not be able to get to campus or something. My internet is more or less for school first and fun second. I literally have internet, electric and water and thats it. Also especially in an apartment that is small honestly anymore then one decent sized tank is not ideal. For me space wise its a pain in the butt, so I am still in the process of only having 2-3 visable tanks at max, no more than 5 total, two being 20gal that sit in the stand under the 150gal tanks. I live with another MFK'r so we both have our own large tank. If I lived on my own I'd only have one.

Take Ash's advice (which we've now heard many many times) and just let this thread sink to the bottom my man.

There aren't many jobs out there that you can work 10 hour days (and get paid hourly, you can work all you want when your salary) or even walk right into a 30-40 hour a week job so just take what she's offering...she's the expert.

do what you .feel is best for the right reason. any living arrangements take compromise but is it at the expense of the people involved? if so thats not good either
