My water is 7.4-ph, 0 - Ammonia, 0 - Nitrite and 10 - Nitrate. I'm doing a water change now as well. I normally do 1 or 2 50% water changes a week. If the Festae had IP's and I got these guys around 10/24/13 and then added the other fish a week later, should the other fish show any signs of IP's by now?? Again, all of the other fish are 100% fine. The other fish are not shy at all and eat like pigs... they have all grown pretty quick too!! Thanks again for the help!!
The other fish may or may not show sighns of IPs. The Festae that is sick may have had a weakened immune system so it was suseptable the others may not get sick or get sick later. You should treat the whole tank to be on the safe side. If it turns out to be a viral infection not much can be done but I wouldn't assume that without trying to treat them first.
I had one of my ellioti eat 2 sick cherry barbs, a month later he is spitting out food, stringy poop and wasting away, a few weeks later he is having trouble swimming. Guessing he was consumed from inside out by whatever was in the barbs. I have 14 other fish in that tank including 2 more ellioti and nothing else has been affected. I treated whole tank with metro and general cure to no success, the single ellioti died, but rest are still fine.
I also bought 4 baby festae from a local breeder. They didn't really like the food and not eager to eat . After about a month, one died and a second one had developed a hollow belly and look like it won't make it. The other two seem to be acclimated and started eating and gaining weight. All I want is one female, and I will be happy if half survive.
I raised a number of Elioti. They are not hardy and suceptable to bloat and bacterial infection. A couple of them I raised from fry to adulthood and out of the blue developed balancing problem and not able to eat, so I had to euthanized them.
I got my stuff from a lfs. I put the meds in at 4pm and I just noticed the one with the sunken stomach is swimming around with the other fish.... he was vertical in between the tank n heater the past week or so. Says to leave the tank for 24hrs then do a wc. I think the fact that I've done two 50% wc's the past two days has helped too. I'm feeling opertunistic this will work out for my Festae.
