Don't Worry About A.I. Taking Over...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Most astronomical "science" is purely theoretical mind you. For all of what we really know the sun could transform into a giant basketball instead of doing all that stuff.

And we're more than ready for any asteroid. Theres an effective counter-asteroid procedure demonstrated with cutting edge late 90s special effects in the movie "armageddon" lol.

We know all about the suns fate due to gazing at stars which have already gone supernova. That one's a given. Whoever's living on this planet when it starts can do nothing about that one.

History also tells us that an asteroid strike is a certainty, but, unlike the sun scenario where we have to wait a couple of billion years before it all starts, the asteroid could hit us even within our lifetime, or not, their's no given with that one.

And the science fiction approach to an asteroid isn't beyond the realms of possibility. Knocking it off course to alter its trajectory years before it even gets near us is doable, sort of, but not currently.

It needs trillions and trillions of $ throwing at research and execution, and we're not even close. Instead of the world combining their efforts, and money, into a global strategy against an asteroid hit, those trillions and trillions are currently going on each others self defence to protect us from one another!! It's laughable really and just shows you what a stupid race of creatures we really are, lol.

Thanks for alerting me to that, Esox! I can't do anything to help the OP in that thread...but I happen to have a number of digital chain catsharks that I would be willing to sell to S sixog1634 at a good price; discounts for multiple purchases (I have a "virtually" unlimited quantity available). I'll even include free shipping and guarantee live delivery. :)

S sixog1634 , please PM me ASAP and let's get this ball rolling...

Oh, and by the way John, you actually liked one of their posts! Bad enough right? I ain't finished yet buddy! Then you went and replied to said post, tragic right? Hang fire my friend, I've a bit more for you, lol. Then you actually agreed with the comment they made!!! Absolutely unbelievable, lol.

You're a fisherman so you'll be familiar with the term, "hook, line and sinker", lmao.

Seriously though, if you can get drawn in, then anyone can, and these might just be "beginner" bots. Sent out to test the water. What happens when we start getting infiltrated with real clever ones!!

Personally I'd find it a bit of a turn off if everytime I came on here I didn't know whether every new member was real or not.

Yeah, I know I did...hoped that nobody would notice, but I knew that if I were "outed"...it would likely be by my buddy Esox! :)

Worse still, back before that I responded to and countered a number of points made in a post by an unknown member...points that were so outlandish and silly and numerous that I think I even suggested the poster was trolling. An established member here woke me up to the idea that I was talking to a bot...which completely floored me. Such a possibility had never even occurred to me. I think it sensitized me the way a hornet sting can sensitize one so that the next sting becomes much more serious.

In any case, the fact that I can be and was fooled by a computer program is no big surprise; I'm pretty much a technoplegic whose response to almost any bit of information regarding the capability of modern tech can be summed up by "No s**t! Can they do that?" :)

I hear you on that one, lol. Thing is, the big guys at the top, the guys who are, or should be way more understanding of this type of tech, our admin, should be protecting old technophobes such as ourselves, not to mention the forum itself, from these dasterdly new advances, by way of installing counter technology, if it even exists, to deal with it.

It would be nice if an admin member would help clear this up by way of a short message or something, just to help alleviate the concerns that many of us have regarding this issue.

But again, as always, admin are unavailable.

It's funny this conversation turned this direction, I'm halfway through a book called Light of the Stars by Adam Frank which covers these exact topics written by an astrophysicist. Very interesting stuff if a bit dry at times.

When you mentioned this book I made a note of it, and later downloaded it on my kindle. I love stuff like this, great read so far, thanks for the heads up.

Glad you're enjoying it! I just finished it up yesterday and my interest only waned a bit about 3/4 through he gets to summarizing some stuff I've heard plenty of times on other documentaries, but it's no downfall of his, and the amin arc carries through the end.

I feel like some of us with these bots are like a primitive island tribe where a container of hairdryers has broke open offshore. As they wash up we're recognizing them and conjecturing about what they do but are just as oblivious to they're real purpose.

<<raises hand>> Guilty as charged! :)

But I'm always open to the worst possible interpretation...:)

I'm a firm believer in the principle of Occam's Nailclipper: when multiple solutions to a problem exist, the worst, most cynical, most harmful, scariest, most apocalyptic and most greed-driven one...is usually correct...
