Yeah I notice, that if anyone my Bichirs don't know look in their tank they will often hide. Funny as they don't see all that well....lol.

Lets see the tank an all the hiding spots.

There isn't a ton... there is a rock area on the left and there is a large fake plant and a piece of driftwood on the right with a floating fake plant at the top. the middle is completely open.

I had the same problem, so i took out all the hiding spots and every man for himself.Lost some fish but i can see them now!

Definitely get more fish...though I'm guessing you're going for an African theme so I can't think of any obvious choices.

that why i try to add some kind of cichlid to my tanks all ways out we'll at least most of the time

I had a krib in there and he did not cooperate with the bush fish. He actually ate eyes... they are just too different. cichlids and bush fish just act too different and handle confrontation too different.

IDK if I want to. I keep thinking about adding 2 polies (dels, palmas, or albino sen), or another knife fish (if i could find an albino one) and maybe one more bush fish... because I wanted 5 but one died when my power went out

I think you should get an African Butterfly fish. They don't hide much
They're pretty cool looking - definitely a conversation-starter!
