every bit of info is appreciated. and thanks.

big fish + adequate swimming space = less aggression so it appears.

If you're planning on getting a group and turning them loose in a huge tank chances are aggression issues will surface. I know this sounds really messed up but with my group room = aggression. I kept 5 in a 40 gallon for months no issues at all. Turn them loose in my 300 and one ends up dead and the 2 smallest arre getting beat up. I know the bigger one is beating up on the 2 smaller ones but the one that turned up dead could have been other tankmates. It didn't have any injuries except for a messed up snout, so I assumed it hit the side of the tank too hard as it began doing the infamous "Characin stuppor" 3 days prior to checking out.

Get "Mad ness's" opinion. He is the only one I know of that seems to be having success with a larger group, but I'm pretty sure with these fish they need to be in a group of 4-5 or more otherwise a single specimen may be a wiser choice.

I started with 5. Lost the 1. I had to seperate my largest as he was picking on the Armatus, making 3 left in the 300. After that the trio got aggressive, with the larger just pestering the smaller 2.

Don't wanna see you loose a bunch of money......

I had 7 at one point but gave away the largest after it killed the smallest. That one now lives in a 225 with an Aro, Gar, Dat, Pbass, Clown Knife and some silver dollars. NO issues whatsoever.

Oddball is a VERY respected hobbyist and likely one of the most knowledgable minds on this site and when he attempted to raise 6 in a 300 he ended up with 1......

seen this b4?

You can house as many juvies as you want together. At small sizees they are not aggressive at all. 6-8 inches things change. Cram them together in say a 40 gallon and you're fine with a group (4-5) take that same group and throw them in a 300 and see what happens. My group went from 40 to 300 to 40 to 300 and now going back to the 40. They never fight in the 40. I will try to get some pics of thier current condition in the 300. They must go back to the 40 to heal up.

Very difficult fish to understand. In my case I made poor choices as I may never understand them cause I value my other fish too much.

thanks.thats quite interesting behaviour. and ive made a note of that.
maybe their instincts become more natural in more of an open space. and a cramped environment just confuses them and they become mellow. im seeing this phenomenon with my group of argenteas. i kept my 6 in a 65g and other week put them in my 180 and they started fighting over terortories.

thanks for all your help guys. i appreciate all the info and im 100% getting them in 2 weeks time.just had an email from my supplier.
