really interesting read i tend to agree with what was said about the argy's quute different from other dorado's from the pictures I've seen as for species to be confused with dorado's some species of tetra could be confused with a very small specimen? my lfs told a story about importing some here and labeling the buenos aires tetras for when fish and game came for their regular checks don't know if it's true or not but an interesting story did the same with atf and chalaeus lol

I know its generally suggested to keep tetras in groups, but I personally feel that all of the apex predator characins; GATF, BATF, TATF, Argies, Armies, etc., are all probably better off as a sole specimen surrounded by predators from a lower trophic level and/or predators who occupy a different niche and who are not direct competitors.

Totally agree here.... The perfect recipe definitely lies in different roles/levels in the tank.

I've never had ATF cause of Payara. Dorado took the place of Armatus in the middle of my tanks after giving up on them, but Dorado (to me) don't fit the "apex" attitude that Armatus have. Seems to me they love to play the part, but don't have to unless it's amongst other Dorado. Aimara seem fine as long as they aren't challenged, give them a hideout and the lower part of the tank. Odoe have been great cause they seem perfectly content never leaving the upper 6-12" of the tank. At least this is the framework I hope my 750 will sit on.....

Just like explaining dithers to people that wonder why I have something that looks like a carp in my tank. They're all puzzle pieces to the big picture. Everyone has their part in a community. We all knows what happens with too many chiefs and not enough indians......

The Francis should be from the same waters as my Falkneri rays. Now if I could just have some nice soft water flow from my tap instead of 8.5PH /360+PPM rock we could all be happy..... I know the rays hate the water here.... lol

Wonder if Rhaphiodons also come from harder waters????
