Dormitator update...still looks like a maculatus, but also still not quite...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
still looks just like mine, just a little larger. Or should I say mine looks like yours. haven't had any health problems and eats like a pig . I hope yours stays healthy and keeps growing. The nerf football twin would be a good look for a fish.

any way to sex them? i'll try to put some update pics of mine on here later if you don't mind-

Please do! I can't wait to see more pics.

Gender is easiest to differentiate during spawning, but males have more finnage on top for sure. My fish has what looks like a permanently exposed organ emerging from his vent. It looks like a hard, curled arrowhead or shovel head and has always been there, neither retracting or moving. Makes my think male but I don't know. You can probably make it out in some of those pics.

Suggests blue are female and more orange specimens are male. Oddball bred them so he'd know for sure.

If both of yours look like that then perhaps its just some sort of spoonhead variety or something... I never see them like that in LFS around here.

Interesting. How does the spoonhead defect differ from the Short-bodied defect? Or is it as obvious as it sounds? Does my fish have both spoonhead and SB?

Couldn't do to good with the cell-cam today. Heres the best i could get

Looks like it has some orange hues and a thin strip of lighter color on dorsal.

Not bad. He looks like he's about to put in some serious weight! Is he a super-eater? Mine is an absolute hog.

well I've got quite the stocklist in the 130. They have all switched over to tilapia as the staple and carnivore sticks, bloodworms, crickets and a few other occasional treats. I've never seen him stop eating when there was food to be had.
