What geophagus species are known to have 2 abdominal spots? Now, I know it's quite common in Orange heads, but what other species has this been known to occur in? I ask because about a month ago I picked up a group of 5 "surinamensis" at 2", in which 1 has double abdominal spots. And the day before yesterday I acquired another larger group of 5 at 4"+, in which 3 have the double abdominal spot. As most of us know, a very big majority of the time surinamensis that arrive in the US are usually abalios. But I have never seen an abalios with double spotting, have you? And I'm 100% sure they're not Orange heads. Can this double spotting occur in any of the large spotted species? Which species have you seen with this? And if possible post pics.

Here's a pic of the one in the first group. (please refresh page if too large)

Geophagus sp. "Rio Aeroes" is known for having two spots. I believe it it is just a locality type of altifrons.

Thanks. Do you know where they are found?

Thanks, but I was looking for something a little more specific. Like country, region, and possibly what major rivers/tributaries it connects to.

Sorry but ometimes you see a ball on a tee and you just have to take a swing

Here's the best I can find:

"Known from the drainage of the Rio Aeroes, and from the Rio das Mortes near Nova Xavantina, a town and municipality in the state of Mato Grosso in the Central-West Region of Brazil."

Thanks. Have you ever seen an abalios with 2 spots?
