"Double Tanking" my new mission

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sounds like a good idea, go with salt water... you will benefit more.

I'd turn at least part of the sump into a refugium for macro algae.

even if it were completely opaqued, it could serve as an indoor pond
You convince my GF that it will "look appealing" and maybe, just maybe, that might happen.

Mission impossible huh?:nilly: I'm scared of my own woman....Yours would break me down:ROFL::ROFL:

She's a good woman, but I'll be damned if I cross that battle line! I've invested more in making her happy then the 2 tanks she "allowed" in the house.
The garage is looking like a better "lounge" everyday.
Actually, to be totally honest, she was fully supportive in obtaining a business/resellers license and actually did all the footwork to get it. I can now go for the wholesalers. I just go the ok to sell in the forum.
WooHoo!
Now just need to setup the garage, get more tanks, cycle them, build up stock, figure out how to sell this crap!!

Have you started your business plan?

What's that?
Not per-say............ I know I want to sell this stuff called TerraPond for starters. I am in a trial period with identical tanks to see the actual benefits.
I hooked up with 3 SW wholesalers right near LAX. Haven't even thought of FW stuff yet, though I am more familiar with FW.
I have a Front colony ready to start breeding.
I have a requested a as many wild caught Calvus' as I can find of breeding size/age.
I dunno really, the SW thing seems to be the way to go. I think I could fit in nicely between the private seller and the LFS.
For the FW stuff, I really need to speak to LFS's NOT in my local area and find out some good suppliers. I think I've been to just about every LFS in SoCal over the past year. I frequent the ones with good stock and keep an eye out for what I'd keep.
I just don't see the same pattern with FW as with SW. SW seems to come from only a couple of HUGE sources where FW are smaller with only a single or a couple of types of fish.
Overall gameplan........... I think I'll focus on local area to start. Once that is going, my brother LOVES tinkering with stuff so I can see getting into tank building pretty quickly. Beyond that, I have some bada$$ ideas for a huge improvement over a python, but need to get some funds moving first.
Wow, my brain hurts now.

Good start.....you will need loans, if you plan on winning bread. Write out your plan, and present it to whoever you ask for money from. It WILL help. I think I would buy breeding stock, as apposed to growing anything...Do you have the time to grow breeders?

I am actually really fortunate. I run my own show. I spend 2-3 days a week at home doing paperwork. The other 2 work days I drive all over SoCal inspecting cars, but have enough time to stop by at least 3 LFS in that area. Money is really not an issue. No kids. No overhead. No debt.
The wholesale places I found have a $500.00 minimum. I can do that easily. I just don't know how long it will take to get rid of it.
Oh, and I don't want this to take over my life. At least not for now. I still want to enjoy my fish. I love my inside tanks. If it becomes work, I will eventually give it up and move on to something else. Fish related stuff is where I will start, but I also have hookups with computer liquidation companies, jewelry wholesalers, art brokers, & stereo warehouses. I just picked up 5 amps & a 12" Kicker single sub box today.
I guess I've just built up business acquaintances over the years and I'm just now using them to my advantage.
I've always bought/sold cars with my current business so it's just another step in my evolutionary ladder.

I would definatley go salt. With fresh you need a huge display tank to have really interesting fish...with salt they seem to get mre interesting the smaller they get! I would be more than perfect for two nano reefs if your up to it. Or maybe some monster salt fish like frogfish etc.

I wouldnt get a mantis for this setup though as they really do not require this kind of system. They are uber hardy and with this you should be able to provide way higher water quality than they need to be comfortable.
