to all the owners of aggressive Dovii - at what size do they become possesed by the devil?? I have a 4.5" male who is completely whipped, even gets taught a lesson by my 3" Texas.

Now I understand this will change (if I allow it), but how much time do I have before I have to rehouse him?

I was somewhat thinking the same thing today when I went into the fishroom and noticed my male Dovii cowarding into the bottom corner. Granted I just got him yesterday but since he was put into the tank I don't think he's left that corner. :irked:

I have a 5" Male Dovii, he was 3.5" when I got him 2 months ago, and he don't take any crap from my 6" Devil or 8" Jag. His side of the tank is his!! Period... The only fish that can go to that side of the tank is my 8" blackbelt. I can see very clearly that mine is evil but at 5" he's still a tad small to do any damage. However he is slowly working his way up the food chain. :WHOA:

I have read several post about there new doviis being shy, but mine has never been. There are plenty of places to hide but he has preferred to be out in the open since day 1.

Mine became the devil when he reached 4 inches...just depends on the personality of the fish but they are all real mean!

Are they ALL mean? Does anyone have a wimp of an adult Dovii??

Species alone neither guarantees nor forewarns aggression. If a fish is introduced (any fish really) into a tank with another fish that has established a territory and a pecking order it is likely that it will fall into line with all of the sub dominant fish. Fish are neither bullies or wimps...simply following the natural course of things. More than likely at some point your dovii's size will dictate a change in it's demeanor. The best way to level the playing field is to introduce and grwo out fish at about the same time and similar size.

A study was done years back where a pair of fish were placed in a tank until one of them established dominance. The sub dominant fish was then removed and placed in a tank with other similar species fish of a smaller size. The fish continued to show submissive traits...showing that this learned behavior had little to do with actual size and more with learned behaviour. Interesting stuff.

All dovii are going to be aggro I don't think I've heard of one not being. I had one in my 90 for 4 days he was around 4.5" long and meant every inch of it. Had my jag cowering a day later and the jag is a good 2" bigger than him. I felt bad for him trapped in a 20g at the lfs, at least I found him a home in a 240.
