Dovii behavior

Do most dovii start as shy from humans but aggressive towards other fishes and then turn very territorial even to humans when their large ?

some are shy, but give it time.

at 9" my male will still go shy mode after large water changes or decal changing, the female doesnt care, that with or with out fry, except when the dog goes near the tank then they both at the glass. seems they are more alert to the dog than people.

I think it has a lot to do with the individual fish, but from what I have seen, they are somewhat skittish until they get larger. Mine is around 12" and getting pretty aggro. I almost never saw the fish when he was smaller.

Mine is around 9-10 inches, he does go up to the front when its feeding time, but retreats to his lair when there is a sudden movment

I can't really speak with any authority since I got mine at about that size. I had him in a 55 for a couple of months, and he was a chicken. I upgraded him to a 125 and he has been a different fish since. It was not over night, and he still has his "shy moments", Here is the latest.

They will be shy when young. It takes a while for them to come around. Mine would be skittish from time to time even when he was 10" or so. Once they get 15" it's pretty much aggression all day every day.

Just wondering how you clean/how hard it is to clean the tank once they get really aggressive?

I saw one video where the owner said he puts a net to keep the dovii from biting him
