It's just called bogwood in some areas (UK for instance)........ Driftwood = bogwood.
I guess you could get technical and say you collect bogwood from peat bogs, but in typical use the terms mean the same thing.

i don't mind the look of driftwood in most cases but i haven't put any in with him because i want the water to be crystal clear to show off his colours. apparently you can get chemicals that get rid of the tannins but i've never used them before.
does anyone else use anything like this?

well actually I was talking about the sand you can find at CA rivers, the same one used on planted tanks, the dark one, not the silica sand!
