Dovii discussion

Sometimes it may seem like a waste of space but just wait until that dovii starts pushing 20 inches then it won't seem like such a waste!

you see I like south Americans dovii being my favorite. But I don't want a whole 250 to house just him. That's why I was thinking bout going with Africans in it.

If you don't want to house just a dovii in a large tank then don't get a dovii

How big are your other fish.

The jaguar is around 8" Trimac is around 10" Red texas cichlids are around 7" and there is a 15" endlicheri 8" marble goby & 8" albino channel cat in the tank also... The dovii is in there temporarily I would not recommend putting a dovii in a community tank for long term

Correct, my 17" male doesn't make my tank look like a waste

Curious, none of what you mention as potential tankmates are Africans?
Umbi,=Columbia/Panama, jag= much of southern and middle Central America, red devil=Nicaragua, and dovii=Costa Rica/Nicaragua and other surrounding areas.

Can I house a 12" male dovii in a 250 gallon with tank mates?

Negative

I had a 14" male in a 180g. If he thinks he can eat or kill it he will. They might be alright for awhile, but parachromis have these beast mode moments. You'll go to bed everything will be fine & when you wake up everything will be dead. I wouldn't do it unless you can donate a minimum 240g to him.

I was saying instead of going with south Americans I would go with africans. All of what I mentioned were potential tank mates for my dovii

Dovii will destroy barbs and dollars. I introduced a school of some insanely fast silver dollars once...figured the dovii couldn't catch them....killed them all in an hour. My dovii is super messed...but I have a female in a 120 full with other fish and she's been in there for 3 years.

LOL! I have my 20 inch plus Dovii with that combo going on 8 years now.
