Dovii Dithers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my male has been seen picking bristlenose fry when he catches them in the open and he is 12", i know they a bit different but he sees them as food. I did think about trying a group of neon in with my pair but not done it yet.

other dithers, well i still have a female convict that i used to start the tank off is still seen regular, but i have a rock formation she hides in, the bristlenose do ok ranging from a large male about 6" to a few at 3" like i said fry seem to get eaten but not sure whats hiding in the rocks now, oh and larger fry from the pair. occasionally i see a 1-2" dovii make a dash but if the male catch them they not going to be much more than a snack.

the thing with dovii is they just know, they know when the dog is on its way in the room before she is even in there, they know when something is moved in the tank, they know when something new is swimming in the tank, they just know
hahaha

they just like to charge things so even if they dont bite it they have a habit of stressing tank mates to death.

Lol, you may have a female for him Shane right?
Also Andy woods cichlids uk Andy woods cichlids uk has Dovii for sale.

Most stick with pleco and Raphael cats as tankmates, might get away with an aggressive catfish like nemurus or maybe an irwini.

if i have a dig around in the tank i'm sure there will be a couple, but they on eggs so give me a few weeks and i'll have loads of potential females and it will be warmer so will be able to post them out too lol.

Dovii that size will kill any dithers. I've owned plenty and have tried silver dollars, tin foils, and other cichlids. At the size you have, I suggest a female if you don't want him to be alone. But imo, solo male dovii's are great pets!!! Give him around a month to settle, keep decor minimal and WC frequent. He will turn out great!!! I've had some of my males take huge chunks out of silver dollars. Tin foils get destroyed, and any other Cichlid becomes competition and will be taken out. If you insist on tank mates, try a small group of female cichlids.. Female festaes have worked for me in the past but not a very affordable option;)

Thanks for the input, i've never kept a lone fish in such a large tank so i'm just imagining that it'll look empty until he's a bit bigger.. I'm happy to find him a female after he settles in as i'm sure breeding would keep him entertained and i'd enjoy watching them breed and raise fry. The festae in your avatar looks huge btw!
