And my beauty of a female ;)

So the one in the tube hovering over the eggs is supposed be the male? :)
How common is that for male CA?? With free swimming fry they may both be just as involved in tending, but 99.99% of the time the female is the one that tends the eggs!

Your supposed female looks much more male to me, then your supposed male. So unless I see the pictures of the breeding tubes, or further developement shows otherwise, I think you've got the sex mixed up!

By the way, especially the last time my male Dovii fertilised eggs, he had a HUGE breeding tube. It does look different then a female tube as it is not quite as thick or blunt, but it is long and curves downward. No exxageration, it was over 3/4" long on a skinny 13" fish. By far the largest tube I have ever seen on a male cichlid.

lol.. show me where it says I said that one was a male :screwy:, the female is in both pics.. the first pic was showing the eggs and the second pic was just showing a better pic of the female because you can't see her colors, hence I referenced her beauty.. :D

Here is a pic of the female with the breeding tube..

Here is a bad pic of the male..

O.K., the new pictures definately shows it. I understood the first pictures to be the male and then the next to be female rather then both to be of the female. But there is no doubt with your last two pictures, as not only the breeding tube of the female but also the apearances show they are male and female.

That your female is more colorfull may just reflect that she might be the more dominant fish. Eventually, your male is likely to become much more colorfull then her.

Pairing up a larger female, if she remains dominant, may not be too easy and might be more unstable, as quite often a female will not accept males that are not dominant over her. Of course there are always exceptions, and a male will eventually out grow her.

Yea up until the spawning I've had not quarrels between them.. now I've had to use the divider twice in a week.. I'm trying it again tonight so we shall see. He's catching up to her but she is definitely dominant and puts him in his place, a little too much lately.
