hi guys, nothing serious to worry about first of all, i was going round one of my local fish stores today when i came across a tank of dovii all about the 4-5 inch range apart from one that is probably 2 1/2 at most it was quite tatty from i presume being nipped at and strangely it was jet black while the others were the usual golden colour. i asked the owner and he said they had all been in the same amount of time, anyway to cut a long story short i have bought him, i didnt see him lasting much longer and i took a shine to the little guy. i have put him in a 100g as a growout witha few other tankmates and then he will be going into 160g in about a month and finally larger as he gets bigger. he seems quite happy and has developed a bit of a blue sheen on his body and fins but is still jet black. He is eating fine aswell..my question is, is this colour normal and why was he so small compared to his tankmates...il try an post a pic in an hour or so cos the lights off at the moment, although he is that dark i doubt it will be a good pic...anybody who has had any similar experiance would be great if you could let me know...many thanks

My guess is he was the runt of the litter and couldn't compete for food as well as the others which may have slowed his development in comparison to his siblings and he may be dark due to the stress of being picked on, he will probably regain normal colors when he settles in.

Can't wait for the pics!

most likely black because of stress but that should go away once he settles in. also small because he was most likely out competed for food and just a slower grower in general. that happened to one of my oscars. 3 pf them were 9" and 1 was 5".

i kind of gathered he was the runt when i got him, i just want to make sure he is ok and if anybody knows if they lighten up, will he grow to normal size and just any general info really
