For a adult wolf cichlid...

which is better?
a non-breakable but scratchable acrylic?
or non-scratachable but less impact resistant?

since i've seen them slam into the walls during feeding and it looks like they can break glass tanks easily. but also look like they can scratch acrylic tanks with their teeth when they slam into the walls.

can they be kept with any other fish? such as arowanas, pacus, peacock bass, stingrays, and iridescent sharks?

or should they be kept in a species tank? bythemselves or in a pair?

I haven't had a dovii before but I have had full grown oscars and they busted the seams of my glass tank where one morning I came out and half of my tank's water was on the kitchen floor. I don't buy glass anymore unless it is for small fish.

These Dovii are also known as "Tank Busters" so with that being said 100% Acrylic.

And as juvies ok with tank mates but they are going to fight! As an adult I would be apt to say NO WAY with any tank mates unless you want to see some money go down the drain!

Trust me, a dovii wont be able to break acrylic or glass, they only get like 3-4 lbs and like 2 feet long but no where near enough to break any type of aquarium containing material

Old thread, but if you've got a tank big enough for a 20" dovii, the glass is probably at least 1/2" thick

It's not going to break.

A big male will scratch acrylic. Mine has broken several teeth on glass. He scares me more and more al the time. He snaps the glass with his jaw. I'm afraid to provoke him too much and he's only 16". If his tank was made of half inch glass, I might not worry but with 3/8 glass, it's kinda freaky, lol.

A 2 footer will weigh much more than 3-4 pounds, btw. That is one massive fish when you consider a 20" is about 3.5" thick.

A 20" dovii won't weigh much more the 5lbs. The dovii probley wont break the glass, but it sure will stress a guy out with the thoughts of a large tank breaking!

I have a 5in Dovii in a glass 55 and I wake up each morning praying today isn't the day I find a wet carpet in my room:cry:

I've seen this fish in action in person.

Let me tell you a dovii this size could probably break some decent sized glass. You can hear the pop when he hits the acrylic, and watch it flex. Until you see a 20"+ dovii in person do this you have absolutely no respect for the power they can produce.

The bonus is, he knocks all his teeth out so he doesn't scratch the acrylic.
