Dovii Glass or Acrylic

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
6ft tanks and up will be ok with glass when it comes to dovii, or you can do acrylic, and unless you seen a video where the dovii broke the glass why bother sharing, you will just confuse the guy plenty of people on this forum have 16+ dovii and even umbee's and they are fine with glass buddy;)

i feel like if a dovii might be able to break the glass of a small aquarium, but if you have it in the right sized aquarium the glass will be very thick and the dovii shouldn't be able to break the glass

that dude has the most stupid voice ever hahahahahhaa

What the heck is wrong with his voice? That's a pretty random post.

Anyway....... as MM said, big dovii hit the tank so hard you can't believe the noise. I still don't think they can break thick glass, but I surely am glad my big boy is in an acrylic tank!

I'd always go with acrylic on large tanks just for the ease of moving, drilling, etc. Also, you can buff out scratches in acrylic, but a scratch on glass is there pretty much forever.

I've seen this fish in action in person.

Let me tell you a dovii this size could probably break some decent sized glass. You can hear the pop when he hits the acrylic, and watch it flex. Until you see a 20"+ dovii in person do this you have absolutely no respect for the power they can produce.

The bonus is, he knocks all his teeth out so he doesn't scratch the acrylic.
That is one bad boy there. That tank looks like it's made of bullet proof glass. I have no experience with them but I'd offer a guess that the seems would give before the glass.

Man, that big male is AWESOME. But even he cant break glass, sorry just don't see it happening. I really think the fish's spine will break from that kinda force, or at least bust his lip or break his jaw, but that glass aint breaking.

What about water on the floor? I dont even keep my dovii in a 125 to breed him anymore. Yes I think he could break the glass.

Mel's tank is acrylic, not glass.

either way modest my midas makes that sound when he bites at the glass ive also had a 16 inch fh hit the glass so hard it knocked its self out for 2 mins it lied on the bottom breathing every 10 15 secs once it woke up it swam on it side for the rest off its life
