Dovii in 90g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Why don't you keep a grammode looks like a dovii breeds like one has the same if not more aggression than one and not Many people breed them males and females get a foot u could keep a pair in a 55

Doviis are better, he sys that he can upgrade so I he should get a dovii. Gramodes are better if you can't upgrade.

I would take a grammodes over a dovii any day. I have a dovii and a grammodes and I love my grammodes. They are far more aggressive then a dovii but very shy compared to the dovii. It takes time for the grammodes to grow and become owner responsive. I think a if a grammodes grew to dovii size it would man handle it. That being said, if ya want a monster cichlid then I would choose and umbee over a dovii

A 36" long tank doesn't allow much swim space for a 12" Dovii. It can cover that in a second at that size. I would say have the means and be ready to upgrade when it is needed. Ball park 8-10" for a Dovii in that footprint.....nice width though. For the life of a Dovii, IMO 8' x 36" is a footprint minimum. My male is getting close to 3 years old and 17" or more, in a 180....I need to set up his 360 soon. There is big difference between a 4 year old 19" Dovii and a 10 year old Dovii given the proper housing. IMO a singe male would be good for a few years in a 6' x 24' with weekly water changes, good filtration and a healthy diet. It will vary as always with the fish and care though.

I got my male when he was a little past free swimming. 1/4" or so and 17"+ in 3 years. He hit 12" around a year and half and slowed a little bulked up. A 12" dovii is a lot more fish then a lot of 12" fish.
yeah your not wrong about the 3 feet thing. i guess i was hoping the width would suffice, which it probably would only i would have to upgrade a little earlier than expected. It wouldnt be a problem though because i already have a 150g with only my female festae and a few oddballs, which would fit the 90g nicely in future. The 150 is 5x2x2 so its got good width. thanks for your input, everyones knowledge is greatly appreciated. In reply to the grammodes suggestions, i would definitely have one in my collection but they are extremely hard to come by in aus, and im not sure if they are even here yet

My advise is get the tank then get the fish. I wouldn't keep a full grown male Dovii in less than 265 gallons, opinions will vary on this but IMO that's the size.

If they have Grammodes in Oz that's a nicer fish IMO same tude, smaller size and nicer colors.

The fish can grow 2t. I'd say a 180g. And with that 3ft tank I'd say by the time it hits 12". One of my lfs has a full grown pair in a 180 and it looks full with the two. Let's wait for the experienced to tune in

I need to spark up my fish life

You should post some pics of the lfs pair love to see them!

NWatson is right, a twelve inch dovii is alot of fish, IMO give your dovii a bigger home and he will be alot less skiddish and will have alot less chance of hurting him self.
