Dovii in a 125 gallon tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The short term answer is Yes. The Long term answer is no unless you eventually upgrade. Dovii get to be 24 inches and standard 125 width is 18 inches.

nothing wrong with having a pair in a 180, just get a comfy chair and sit in the garage with them.

if i could put tanks in the garage, it would be full of them by now!

I disagree. Very bad idea.

You can probably keep a female dovii in a 180 for a while, although I'm guessing the OP may prefer a male.

A 180 would be ok for a single male dovii long term IMO. However I certainly do not think the clown knife will be tolerated. I always like to keep cichlids in pairs, think it's more natural. I would get a group of youngsters, maybe 6-8, more if you want, grow em' out in the 180, let a pair form and sell off the rest. I would keep the pair in the 180. Yes they will need a bigger tank eventually, but temp. the 180 will work. Then I would just plan on getting a bigger tank. The fish you like need BIG tanks. That is what I would do.

However, if you like the parachromis... as Q qguy said, a pair of RTM's would work really well too!

I don't understand why he couldn't just get a FEMALE Dovii for the 125g.......Isn't the average female Dovii only like 14"???....or close to that?
