Dovii in National Zoo

Here are pics of Dovii in the Amazonian Tank at the National Zoo. Some big males are impressive, over 2 feet long with gigantic hump. The first pic is a pair and note the size difference.

Although Dovii look impressive in company with giant Amazonian fish, they are not from Amazon so the display is not accurate..

Dovii and Umbee are ugly fish when full grown lol they look there best at the 14 to 16 inch mark. Still love love them

Blasphemy!
Dovii and Umbee are at there peak with a huge knuchal hump and lots of length and girth. I love the beastly bad boy look that they get when they get really large. Hard to tell how large these guys are, but compared to the Pacu which get 3' at maximum, they are much smaller. I would say they are probably around the 23'' mark, but it is hard to tell for sure. 24'' may be possible. Definitely some beasts, either way.

The big hump males in the pics are around 2 ft. The female in the first pic is about 8 inch, but looks tiny. Here is another video of one big male.

No, I doubt the National Aquarium in Baltimore will place a wrong fish in its Amazon tank. I don't even recall that the National Aquarium has a CA tank.

When I saw it I assumed it was a case of someone dropping their fish from home in as a temporary holding spot. Maybe an employee or something needed temp housing. Or it was a SA cichlid that looked a lot like dovii

True BD. I should refrain my comment as it is not true for ALL dovii! Yours was raised in a pond or is Wild and I think that has something to do with the over all look of the fish.
