I think it's just the exposure of the pic.. usually it's a golden bronze color there. Now I will say males don't typically get the deep black vertical stripes at this size. Thats a female trait but it definitely looks to be male, just odd it has the stripes.

No he is red in color. If you see him in person instead of black spots he has red spots. First pic shows it clearly how his spotting is not black but a grey red which has now turned red.

I don't know why he has black vertical bars as I always wondered that. He is pissed alot so maybe thats it.

Doubt it's a pure Dovii then.. maybe a cross with an RTM or something? Dunno.

Either that or maybe it's a girl? My female had bronze spots all over, and that would explain the black stripes. Have you vented it?

Looking at the pics again it has the body shape of a female too..

You sure it's the same Dovii as in the first few pics? :D

Yes it is definately the Dovii as I have only owned one and this is him. I am 100% positive it is in fact a Male. I know how to sex Parachromis extremely well and this fish has already been vented.

If my Dovii was crossed with an RTM it would have a much different head and color. 100% Dovii.

Don't let the pictures fool you guys he still has the same colors but I forgot what settings I took the first pics at. Also I changed the Bulbs in my tank lights to 10k day lamps and before I had other bluish bulbs that were garbage. So he may seem different.

You guys are right that the black lateral line came out of no where and made it look entirely different but he is still the same fish.

Ok.. yea all of those different factors can definitely play tricks when comparing fish :D

Well also increasing dominance in the tank and having to defend territory could make the black line more prominant. I know he practically turns black when He is pissed so...

Ronnie.. Thing has put on some serious weight since i saw it last!

I am also 100% sure its pure dovii... and did have the red speckling when ronnie took it.

Let me know if it ever gets to vicious.. lol. what you up to tommorow? sending you a pm

Yeah you remember he was like 4" or so when I got him and now he is almost the full length of my hand. Eats like a monster. Is the other Dovii I was going to buy still there lol probably not :grinno:. If so I'll by him too. I should of bought both. The other one was a wimp though and hid alot.
