he has some red in him like in the fins but alot of gold in the face
 
Honestly I don't know enough about mota's to give a real guess - from the males I've seen, as well as what's been in the hobby lately I'd say red...but who knows.
 
$35 at 12", I'd have paid that. I only would have worried about the sunken stomach being internal parasites, but you said he's already filled out, so that's most likely in the clear. Good buy. Get him on a good diet and you should have one good looking mota.

internal parasites for one-worry about that 1st and the rest will come when its health returns
