in the fish room
I was so lucky that my brother was around when my Dovii jumped out just about 30 minutes ago. My friend had his dovii jumped out before and died. My question is have any of you Dovii owners have had any of these problems??
I have a Dovii pair with fry's. Once in awhile my dovii would try to jump out. He is very aggressive maybe he thought something was trying to get his frys idk. What do you guys think?

You got lucky the in my avatar died because it jumped out
the tank was in my brothers room and in the middle of the night
my brother said he heard a big splash and thump and thought
nothing of it the next morning I walk in to his room the lid was
on the ground and my dovii. I hope you dont have to go what I
have through GL.

yea. I was sleeping when my brother starting knocking on my door saying that my dovii jumped out I hurried out of bed in my boxers downstairs to the tank and thank god he was still alive. What I don't get is why?? btw sorry for your loss It would be an awful day today if my dovii died. :(

there known to jump out. ive read quite of few of these threads of peoples dovii jumping.

anyone who's fish jumps in the middle of the night is simply validating the necessity of a glass lid. Even a 20'' dovii will find it difficult to smash through a glass lid. If you were doing tank maintanance and it jumped that would be different but....... while your sleeping? i dont see any reason for the tank to not have a lid to prevent this.

Maybe a glass lid with concrete blocks on it, My adult male crashed thru the glass lid and hit the floor. He regularly bumped it and made it jump several inches, just got carried away once too often. Ken

Well in cases of monster dovii such as Ken's you might want to go for the concrete blocks haha. Another option.... how bout a glass lid with built in locks. I believe that glasscages.com sells those.... correct me if im wrong.

personally i scratch the idea of the glass lid, they can shatter easily and i wouldnt want my dovii smashing a glass lid and having a tank full of glass....

get a plastic lid and stick a few rocks on top.

Im pretty sure a 20" Dovii would have no problem with a glass lid. If it is locked down then it will just break if it hits hard enough, which is quite likely since Dovii are such powerful fish. Ive heard of fish breaking through heavyass barriers in the tank.

I had a male Loisellei jump... Sad.

Anyways I suggest a good strong top for your tank.
